Class of '63 helps with Cadet Wing book club

The Cadet Wing Character Staff has created the first-ever Wing book club, and the Class of ’63 helped supply its first book for all participants.

Cadet 1st Class Madeleine W. Morlino, Wing character officer, said the reading group was created to provide another avenue for leadership development.

“We want to create a community of cadets who have a passion for reading and a desire for more leadership development via a reading group,” she said. “This initiative will develop a platform for cadets to engage in constructive dialogue regarding character-related concepts.”

The character staff will facilitate discussions with 200 cadet readers over three months as they all read Angela Duckworth’s “Grit,” supplied by the Class of ’63. The cadets will be assisted by staff from the Center for Character and Leadership Development, who will provide techniques for facilitators.

“My staff and I are very excited to initiate the book club and, with the first book, understand how grit applies to cadets now and as future Air Force officers,” Morlino said.

If there is sufficient interest from other cadets, the character staff may offer an additional reading group during the spring semester.
