Heritage Minute:
Distinguished Graduate Pedestals

A vital part of the Association of Graduates’ commitment to preserving our heritage is recognizing and honoring the Academy’s most exceptional alumni. While every graduate contributes in meaningful ways, some stand out through extraordinary service and achievement.

To celebrate these individuals, the AOG’s Heritage Trail features granite pedestals dedicated to recipients of the Distinguished Graduate Award. Established in 1999 and first presented during Founders Day in 2002, this prestigious award honors graduates who have made exceptionally significant contributions to our nation or their communities. The inaugural recipients — Gen. Ronald Fogleman, Class of ’63, and Mr. Harry Pearce, Class of ’64 — were formally recognized as the 2001 honorees.

Each granite pedestal, weighing just under two thousand pounds, is crafted from stone quarried in South Dakota, symbolizing the strength and enduring legacy of these outstanding individuals. The Distinguished Graduate Award recipients exemplify the character, leadership and service that define what it means to be a Zoomie. Their accomplishments elevate the reputation of the Academy and inspire future generations to uphold its proud traditions.
