2018 Giving Tuesday was record setting

In its fifth year of participating in Giving Tuesday, the United States Air Force Academy Endowment experienced its best year, helping Academy supporters channel more than $66,000 to 44 projects.

The Air Force Academy Fund was the biggest beneficiary of the day of giving. Donors provided more than $31,000 to the unrestricted fund, which helps the Endowment support areas of greatest need during the year.

Twelve class giving projects benefitted from the global day of giving as well.  The Class of 1963, for example, requested that its members support an effort to purchase a burial device for the USAFA Cemetery, making it easier to lower urns into a gravesite.

Other classes who provided multiple gifts during Giving Tuesday include:

  • Class of 1971 Air War Combat Memorial 40th Reunion Project Fund
  • Class of 1993 National Character and Leadership Panel Fund
  • Class of 1968 Endowment Fund for the Cyber Competition Team
  • Class of 1970 Heritage Trail Fund
  • Class of 1985 Planetarium 30th Reunion Project
  • Class of 1976 Air Gardens Renovation 40th Reunion Project Fund

Athletic teams and cadet clubs also received support, including the Wayne Baughman Wrestling Team Endowment, men’s rugby, competitive cycling, baseball, women’s tennis and men’s lacrosse.

“I am so grateful for the generosity of those who gave during Giving Tuesday this year,” said Mike Gould ’76, president and CEO of the USAFA Endowment. “Donors shattered the previous record by more than $20,000 with the largest number of gifts on a Giving Tuesday. That translates to important assistance for cadet clubs, capital projects, academic programs and more.”
