Endowment announces new leadership

The United States Air Force Academy Endowment Board of Directors has elected a new chairman and appointed a new president and CEO for the organization.

Current board director and 1978 Air Force Academy graduate Jack Kucera has been named the Endowment’s board chair. Kucera succeeds Randy Jayne, a 1966 graduate of the Air Force Academy. Jayne served as board chair from November 2015 to July 2017 and will maintain his role as a board director.

Kucera is president and CEO of Varitec Solutions. Varitec provides large commercial and industrial air conditioning solutions and is the Southwest’s largest independent provider of industrial automation and control solutions for Health Care, HVAC, lighting, fire, life safety, security and card access.

“I am extremely pleased and humbled to be chosen to serve the Endowment and our great Academy as chair of the board of directors,” said Kucera. “The Academy experience is important to me and my wife, Vianne, and it has profoundly impacted both of our lives.”

Retired Lt. Gen. Mike Gould has been appointed president and CEO of the Endowment. A 1976 graduate of the Academy, Gould served as the Academy’s 18th superintendent from 2009 to 2013.

“I had the unique opportunity to actively engage with the Endowment’s board during my tenure as superintendent, and I am honored now to have the opportunity to lead the USAFA Endowment team and to build on the foundation of philanthropic support that the Academy’s generous supporters have provided for the last decade,” said Gould.

He replaces retired Maj. Gen. Mark Volcheff, a 1975 Academy graduate, who served in the role from January 2016 to July 2017. During Volcheff’s tenure, the Endowment raised nearly $18 million in support of the Air Force Academy and its mission, The Center for Character and Leadership Development opened at the Academy, and the fundraising initiative for the renovation of Falcon Stadium moved forward with several high-profile gifts.
