Three USAFA grads selected as Olmsted scholars

The Olmsted Foundation has named three graduates of the United States Air Force Academy to its prestigious Olmsted Scholar Class of 2027.

Selected during the foundation’s spring board meeting March 18 in Washington, D.C., Maj. Sean Bapty ’16, Maj. Miranda Bapty ’16 and Capt. Elena Britt ’18 are among 16 officers chosen across the Department of War for the competitive international study program.

Sean and Miranda Bapty, both mobility pilots, will study in Podgorica, Montenegro, while Britt, an intelligence officer, will study in Tübingen, Germany.

The Olmsted Scholar Program sends top-performing military officers abroad for graduate and immersive language training, building regional expertise and cultural fluency to prepare them for senior leadership roles.

With this year’s selections, 175 Air Force Academy graduates have been named Olmsted scholars since the program’s founding in 1960 — more than any other undergraduate institution.

Academy leadership said the selections reflect the officers’ potential to serve as strategic leaders in an increasingly complex global environment. The honorees will also be recognized on the Academy’s Olmsted Scholar plaque in Fairchild Hall.
