Academy modifies programs based on survey

Pop singer's performance at AFA hits home
When pop singer Bettina sings for cadets, opening for the rock band Smash Mouth at the Air Force Academy on Wednesday, it'll be more than just another gig. It will have special meaning because her father, Charles Bush, was among the first black cadets to attend the military institution.

High-risk pilot awarded

Flying low and comparatively slow over the deserts of Iraq earned Capt. Jonathan Graham the Jabara award.   Graham, '99 flew special operations missions aboard the MH-53 helicopter during five deployments to Iraq that started with the 2003 invasion.

Pilot of first Burma relief mission, '01, describes experience
The Air Force pilot who flew the first U.S. relief flight to Burma said today that, while he and his crew were received warmly, it was clear to him that more relief is needed.

Academy not satisfied with minority rates
The Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors, acknowledging the academy’s uphill battle to draw more minority students at a May 8 congressional meeting, reiterated its commitment to attract a diverse body of cadets.

Air Force asks your help in naming tanker

An airman could get credit for naming the Air Force’s new tanker by entering the service’s name-the-tanker contest.  Officially, the tanker is designated the KC-45, but the tanker doesn’t have a name to go along with the designation like the KC-135 Stratotanker or KC-10 Extender.

interest in cadets

Top high school football recruits don’t go to the Air Force or other service academies to get to the National Football League, said Tennessee Titan defensive end and Air Force Reserve Capt. Bryce Fisher.

 
Four Falcon swimmers named Mid-major All-Americans
Air Force men's swimmers Bryan Avery, Justin Day, Sean O'Keefe and Benjamin Gunn were named honorable mention Mid-Major All-Americans by CollegeSwimming.com, as announced April 22.
 
Air Force hands out end-of-season team awards
The Air Force women's gymnastics coaching staff handed out its 2008 program awards at the annual end-of-season banquet the weekend of May 3. Junior Abigail Rogers, the co-Gymnast of the Year by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, was selected as the team MVP, while three other gymnasts received recognition from head coach Doug Day.
 
Air Force Football one of the best values around
Air Force football is one the best values in the Mountain West Conference and among all Division I-A college football programs when it comes to ticket prices. The program is coming off a successful 9-4 campaign in 2007 and has a great home schedule in 2008 including trips to Colorado Springs by Navy, BYU, Utah, Colorado State and New Mexico.
